Lloyd’s Register Foundation – All That Separates Us Is Distance

We were commissioned by Lloyd’s Register Foundation to create All That Separates Us Is Distance, a documentary exploring the realities of life for fishing communities around the world.
Fishing remains one of the most dangerous professions in the world. This film follows three fishers across Ghana, Indonesia, and the UK, offering an intimate portrait of their daily lives at sea. Despite the vast distances between them, their experiences reveal a shared reality: challenging working conditions, significant risk, and a common desire to return home safely to their families.
The purpose of the film is to allow Lloyd’s Register Foundation to continue to amplify the voices of fishing communities and to engage partners in supporting meaningful improvements in safety and working conditions across the industry.
We are grateful to the Foundation for entrusting us with this project, and to the fishermen Emmanuel, Dede and James for their openness in sharing their experiences.
We loved making this film and hope it contributes, in some small way, to raising awareness of the risks faced by fishers worldwide.
